| 3 | Baise-Moi | Coralie | Unrated | 2000 | Remstar | Adult | |
Baise-Moi CoralieRated: Unrated Date Added: 04 Feb 2007 Languages: French Subtitles: English Summary: Not for the faint-hearted. "Baise-Moi" defies categories--it features pornographic sex scenes and violent shootings, but it won't fit anyone's definition of an erotic thriller. After separately committing murders, two French women join together in a spree of crime and sex. Because both have endured abuse at the hands of men, the movie seems to start as a self-righteous parable--but the women's actions quickly degenerate into amoral, near random killings, with women shot as casually as men. One reviewer described "Baise-Moi" as ""Thelma & Louise" with actual penetration," but it's actually "Thelma & Louise" without Hollywood sentiment. By refusing to condemn or justify the protagonists' actions, and by depicting both sex and violence with unglamorous realism, "Baise-Moi" forces the viewer to respond in the most contradictory and basic ways. You may find the lead characters surprisingly sympathetic. Jarring, unsettling, and well worth watching. "--Bret Fetzer"

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls Russ MeyerRated: X Writer: Roger Ebert, Russ Meyer Date Added: 04 Feb 2007 Sound: Dolby Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: This time... they've really gone Summary: One never tires of watching Russ Meyer's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", a distant relative of Jaqueline Susann's bestselling novel, "Valley of the Dolls", and its filmic counterpart, "Valley of the Dolls". Kelly McNamara (Dolly Read), Casey Anderson (Cynthia Myers), and Petronella Danforth (Marcia McBroome), star as the hot female trio who clumsily navigate Hollywood during the Swingin' Sixties to promote their band, The Carrie Nations. Written by Rogert Ebert, Ebert calls the film the "first rock-horror exploitation musical," because "BVD", as it's called by fans, encompasses all that was sexy, funny, hip, schlocky, stylish, and horrific about America's most interesting cultural period. "BVD" can be viewed as a Sixties' artifact, packed with consummate party scenes (and a cameo appearance by Strawberry Alarm Clock), as the original skin flick, as a proto-cult classic, or as a benchmark in American cinema, since it is actually well- written, artfully shot, and finely edited. This special edition re-release includes a second disc comprised of five featurettes, whose topics include Meyers' biography, the Carrie Nations music as soundtrack, Casey and Roxanne's titillating lesbian love scene, and the political climate during the Sixties. Revisiting "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", especially after Russ Meyer's recent death, reminds viewers to treasure his visionary obsession with female beauty. "--Trinie Dalton"

Flesh Gordon Howard ZiehmRated: X Writer: Michael Benveniste Date Added: 08 Mar 2007 Sound: Dolby Picture Format: Pan & Scan Comments: Not to be confused with the original "Flash Gordon" Summary: Directors Howard Ziehm and Michael Benveniste draw from the same cliffhanging "Flash Gordon" serials of the 1930s as the glitzy 1980 tongue-in-cheek space opera for their soft-core spoof. Hockey hero Flesh Gordon and often-naked love interest Dale Ardor join Dr. Jerkoff in his battle against the mad Emperor Wang from the planet Porno, who has unleashed his diabolical sex ray on the Earth. Full of toilet humor, juvenile sexual innuendo, and unending naked romps and orgies, it's hardly in the same company as the Mel Brooks genre goofs "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein". But amidst the slack direction, flat performances, and grungy photography are some lovingly crafted low-tech effects, including marvelous stop-motion creatures from Jim Danforth and spaceships courtesy of future Oscar winners Greg Jein and Dennis Muren. The film's best sequence is a "King Kong" tribute with a giant rampaging satyr (voiced by an uncredited Craig T. Nelson, who ad-libs quips in a cultured but expletive-filled whine) kidnapping Dale as Flesh buzzes him his phallic space ship. All the restoration in the world won't make this dark, grainy, bargain-basement parody look any better, but the retro effects, inspired score, and playful attitude make this silly sex romp a kitschy cult item from the randy 1970s. Sadomania Jesus FrancoRated: Unrated Writer: Günter Ebert, Jesus Franco Date Added: 21 Oct 2007 Picture Format: Widescreen Summary: A couple of young newlyweds take a wrong turn in a Mediterranean country and discover that they have trespassed onto the grounds of a prison for women. Black transsexual Ajita Wilson plays the warden who decides to throw the blonde wife in jail and, incredibly, to let the husband go. Why, so he can come back or go to complain somewhere? Most of the gorgeous inmates are fair-skinned. They all labor in a rock quarry under the blazing sun topless with cut-off jeans. How do they keep from having their skin burned off by sunburn? The governor of the province and his wife are sadists who use the prison inmates to satisfy their perverse desires. The movie is a veritable orgy of depravity. The action includes lesbianism, sex under coercion, false imprisonment, white slavery, hunting women as sport, brutality, etc. Franco has a role as a gay pimp. Despite some obviously outrageous and even ridiculous aspects this movie works for me. It is quite similar to Ilsa, the Wicked Warden. Franco is pretty good at these WIP type movies.

A cheerfully insane ex-marine hates teenage "freaks and nuts" so much he steals 40 land mines and turns the desert site of an impending rock festival into one big Booby Trap! Headquartered in a stolen motor home, the cackling loon (played waaaay over the top by "Please Don't Eat My Mother" director Carl Monson) also blows up a hitchhiking hippie chick just for the fun of it. His anti-social activities trigger a chain reaction all the way from the military to a Sunset Strip topless bar, with the site of this intended massacre besieged by his cocktail waitress ex-wife, her shot-in-the-shoulder boyfriend, two out-for-blood mobsters, and a big sissy with stolen money. "The Takers" (1972, 78 min.) - After a breakfast of LSD and hitchhikers, The Takers--two berserk bikers--decide to go upscale when they spot suburban housewife Laura and bachelorette Barbi, follow them to Laura's home, and invite themselves in: "We're gonna have us a party with some educated social-type broads!" And party they do until Laura's hubbie (Monson again!) unexpectedly shows up to settle things with some shotgun vengeance and... well, one of the goofiest, most startling endings of any motion picture! Two demented drive-in delights from the vaults of Harry Novak, both "Booby Trap" and "The Takers" are best summed up by the lovely Miss Barbi: "Listen, honey, these two are freak outs!"

| 29 | Allegro Non Troppo | Bruno Bozzetto | Bruno Bozzetto, Guido Manuli | PG | 1977 | Home Vision | Animation |
Allegro Non Troppo Bruno BozzettoRated: PG Writer: Bruno Bozzetto, Guido Manuli Date Added: 30 Jan 2007 Languages: Italian Subtitles: English Sound: MP3 Summary: Nominally, "Allegro Non Troppo" is an Italian spoof of Disney's classic "Fantasia", and with its commentary on the human condition and its consequences, the film goes in thematic directions Disney would never have touched. Interspersed with the animation are black-and-white segments that involve a dictatorial conductor, a mousy animator, an orchestra full of old ladies, and a blowhard director. The animator is Italian comic Maurizio Nichetti, and the style is broad slapstick humor that stands in sharp contrast to the animated parts. Synced to "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" is a vignette involving a satyr and his efforts to attract nymphs while fighting the effects of age, set perfectly to the mood of the piece. "Valse Triste" is set to the story of an abandoned cat as he wanders a derelict (war-torn?) building and remembers how things were when he had a more comfortable life. An incredibly imaginative segment is set to Ravel's "Bolero"; astronauts drop a Coke bottle on a planet and the story of evolution is traced, beginning in the bottle. A piece set to Stravinsky's "The Firebird" begs the question: what if it were a perfect world and Adam and Eve had resisted the temptation of the apple in the Garden of Eden? The style of the animation calls to mind late-'60s pop-art icon Peter Max, "Yellow Submarine", and even the paintings of Bosch; what "Allegro Non Troppo" lacks in the visual detail of the Disney film, it makes up for in inventiveness, emotional depth, and wit. Be advised, though, that many segments are more adult in theme and not very suitable for kids. The pratfalls and gags of the live-action interludes seem out of place until they provide some relief from the pathos of some of the animation (like "Valse Triste," a real tear-jerker). This is an important animated film that has been somewhat neglected after its popularity in the '70s, and a must-see for animation fans. "--Jerry Renshaw"

Dark Fury - The Chronicles of Riddick Peter ChungRated: Unrated Writer: David Twohy, Brett Matthews, Jim Wheat, Ken Wheat Date Added: 30 Jul 2007 Picture Format: Widescreen Summary: Taking a page from "The Animatrix", "Dark Fury" is part of a new trend of bridging theatrical sequels. As an official product of a franchise, the 35-minute anime benefits from having the original actors voice the characters, including Vin Diesel as Riddick. This story opens with the new action hero and the two other survivors of "Pitch Black" already caught by a giant spaceship filled with dread. The sinewy leader has a unique--and creepy--jail for master villains and she has her sights set on Riddick. The film--indeed the series--is indebted to animator Peter Chung, who brings his techno style from his "Aeon Flux" series. His smooth animation for Riddick doesn't reinvent the character as much as give him a new, appealing fluidity. As anime goes, there's nothing really new here--plenty of action, cool killers, and dramatic spurts of blood--but it's a building block for how this genre might enliven movie series and sequels in the future. Dinosaur Eric Leighton, Ralph ZondagRated: PG Writer: Walon Green, Thom Enriquez, John Harrison, Robert Nelson Jacobs, Ralph Zondag, Tamara Lusher, Shirley Pierce, Rhett Reese Date Added: 28 Feb 2007 Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: You have never seen anything like this. Summary: Dinosaurs come alive like never before in this costly computer-animated film from Disney. After a breathtaking opening (a dino egg is kidnapped), the film changes style; realistic dinosaurs are given human characteristics and voices. The kidnapped egg grows into an iguanodon named Aladar (voiced by D.B. Sweeney), who is raised by lemurs (shades of "Tarzan") on a lush island void of other dinosaurs. When a meteorite destroys their island home in a thrilling sequence, the lemur family and Aladar become part of a dinosaur troop roaming the mainland deserts looking for the lush nesting grounds (shades of the fourth installment of the "Land Before Time" series and "Fantasia"). Disney's usual mix of modern language (one lemur calls himself "a love monkey") is present, as is its typical capital punishment law: anyone against our forward-thinking hero (or even disagreeing with him) ends up dead. Curiously, the meanies, a pair of carnotaurs following the group, are nameless and voiceless. This more realistic approach might have been a bigger wow, as in the BBC's "Walking with Dinosaurs", which looked extraordinary with only a fraction of the budget. The complexity and scope of "Dinosaur"'s visual scale is impressive, and group shots and a point-of-view angle are stunning. Rated PG for general intensity, the film should be a favorite for the 6- to 11-year-old set. "--Doug Thomas"

Hoodwinked Cory EdwardsRated: PG Writer: Cory Edwards, Todd Edwards, Tony Leech Date Added: 14 Oct 2007 Sound: Dolby Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: Trouble In The Hood Summary: "Hoodwinked" fuses the classic fairy tale of "Little Red Riding Hood" with the crisscrossing storylines of "film noir"--pretty ambitious stuff for a computer-animated cartoon. The police cordon off Grandma's cottage and an amphibious version of William Powell named Nicky Flippers (voiced by David Ogden Stiers, "M*A*S*H") begins interrogating the suspects: A Little Red in bell-bottoms (Anne Hathaway, "Ella Enchanted"), a Wolf turned investigative journalist (Patrick Warburton, "The Woman Chaser"), a snow-boarding Granny (Glenn Close, "101 Dalmatians"), and a dimwitted would-be Woodsman (Jim Belushi, "Curly Sue"), each of whom have very different reasons for ending up in that cottage living room. The visual style of "Hoodwinked" mixes a clunky, video-game look with an homage to the stop-motion puppetry of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and other Rankin-Bass holiday specials. While sometimes awkward, there are also moments of surreal beauty, such as when a depressed Red wanders through a field of blue and red flowers--and moments of lunatic comedy, such as the Schnitzel song, which is irresistibly bizarre. The "Shrek"-style pop-culture references grow annoying, but the left-field goofiness of a yodeling goat points toward a far more distinct and delightful comic world. Also featuring the voices of Anthony Anderson ("Kangaroo Jack"), rapper Xzibit, and an especially witty turn by Andy Dick ("NewsRadio") as a deceptively cute bunny rabbit. "--Bret Fetzer"

Looney Tunes - Back in Action Joe DanteRated: PG Writer: Larry Doyle Date Added: 19 Oct 2007 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: Real life has never been so animated Summary: At the peak of "Looney Tunes: Back in Action", Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck lead Elmer Fudd on a wild pursuit through famous paintings hanging in the Louvre, their animated selves absorbing the painting styles of Salvador Dali, Georges Seurat, Toulouse Lautrec, and others. That sequence manages to recapture the anarchic spirit of Warner Bros.' classic cartoons; unfortunately, not much else in this labored movie does. Technically, the merging of live actors and cartoon characters is impressive, as Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman team up with Bugs and Daffy to save the world by keeping a magical diamond out of the hands of the evil Acme Corporation, headed by a nerdy, prancing Steve Martin. Just about every Warner Bros. character makes an appearance, as do Timothy Dalton, Heather Locklear, and the ever-dependable comic delight of Joan Cusack ("In and Out", "School of Rock"). Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas Matthew O'Callaghan, Theresa PettengillRated: G Writer: Chad Fiveash, Carole Holliday, Peggy Holmes, Bill Motz, Matthew O'Callaghan, Jim Peronto, Bob Roth, James Patrick Stoteraux Date Added: 31 Jul 2007 Picture Format: Widescreen Summary: Mickey Mouse and his friends enter the realm of eye-catching computer-generated animation in this five-episode, 68-minute Christmas celebration. The holidays are a time for celebration, but when Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and host of other Disney characters become obsessed with holiday preparations, the frenzy of activity leaves everyone feeling stressed, selfish, and full of regret. A skating contest leads best friends Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck down a path of jealousy and hurt feelings in "Belles on Ice," and "Christmas Impossible" finds Huey, Dewie, and Louie selfishly scheming to get on Santa's "good list" at any expense. In "Christmas Maximus," Goofy's son Max is mortified by his father's silly antics and, in "Donald's Gift," Donald's craving for peace and quiet threatens to ruin the whole family's holiday fun. "Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas" finds Mickey so absorbed in planning the perfect Christmas party that he lashes out at Pluto and almost loses a very special friend forever. While the animation style is new, what hasn't changed is Disney's commitment to stories with wholesome values: Mickey and the gang remind viewers that the holiday season is not about selfishness, flashy parties, and expensive gifts, but about selflessness and the celebration of family and friends. Popeye the Sailor, Vol. 2: 1938-1940 Dave FleischerRated: Unrated Date Added: 24 Sep 2008 Sound: AAC Picture Format: Academy Ratio Summary: During the late 1930's, the Fleischers' "Popeye the Sailor" cartoons rivaled even Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse shorts in popularity, and this second collection makes it easy to understand why. In contrast to the realistically animated characters in Disney's lavishly beautiful shorts, Popeye, Olive and Bluto were rubber-limbed and broadly comic. These cartoons aren't badly animated: notice the fun the artists have with Olive's precarious balance in "A Date To Skate" (1938) or the way the trio struggles to act refined in "It's The Natural Thing To Do" (1939). The Fleischers' approach to animation was just broader and cartoon-ier than Disney's. But the period of 1938-1940 represented the last hurrah of the "Popeye" shorts. To accommodate the large staff needed for the studio's first feature, "Gulliver's Travels" (1939), producer Max Fleischer moved the studio from New York to Miami. The run-down apartment houses and gritty streets of the early "Popeye" cartoons gave way to suburban houses and gardens. The backgrounds and supporting characters in "Popeye Meets William Tell" (1940) look like leftovers from "Gulliver", and the film lacks the élan of the shorts made just a year earlier. The studio would close and be re-organized under new management after the failure of "Hoppity Goes to Town" in 1941. Like the cartoons in the previous set, "Popeye the Sailor 1933-1938", these transfers were made from beautiful masters with only minimal dust and scratches. In addition to four "Popumentaries," the extras include a rare, partial pencil test from "Females Is Fickle" (1940) and a 1938 "Popular Science" short showcasing the animation process at the Miami Studio. A must-have for cartoon lovers.(Unrated, suitable for ages 8 and older: cartoon violence, tobacco use, a few ethnic stereotypes) "--Charles Solomon"

Samurai X - The Motion Picture Tsuji HajikiRated: Unrated Writer: Yukiyoshi Ôhashi, Nobuhiro Watsuki Date Added: 22 Jan 2008 Languages: Japanese Subtitles: English Sound: MP3 Summary: Although it boasts plenty of sword fights, martial arts combat, and odd, orange blood, "Samurai X" offers deeper and more sensitive characterizations than typical anime samurai epics. Based on the "manga" by Noboru Watsuki, the film centers on questions about the nature of Japanese society during the years following the Meiji Restoration in the late 19th century. Kenshin Himura and his friends Kaoru, Sanosuke, and Yahiko seem like an ordinary, slightly goofy quartet. But red-haired Kenshin is an expert swordsman; tall, lanky Sanosuke, a martial arts master; adolescent Yahiko, a samurai-in-training. Kaoru fills the role of outspoken anime heroine. An ugly encounter with some drunken British sailors introduces Kenshin and his friends to the noble Takimi Shigure and lovely Toki Takatsuki. Shigure leads a group opposed to the Meiji government, which they believe is corrupting Japanese culture, and his ill-conceived attempt at rebellion brings him into conflict with Kenshin. A key fighter in the Restoration, Kenshin received scars on his soul that mark him more decisively than the "X" on his cheek; he weeps for the needless bloodshed he helped to unleash. Director Hatsuki Tsuji builds subtle visual patterns of downward motions--falling tears, fluttering bamboo leaves, the deadly stroke of a sword, Kenshin's spectacular leaps--to create a film with an unusually satisfying resolution. Not rated; suitable for ages 14 and up for violence. "--Charles Solomon"

Spider-Man - Daredevil Vs. Spider-Man Bob RichardsonRated: G Date Added: 05 Nov 2007 Sound: Dolby Summary: "Spider-Man vs. Daredevil" isn't a question of "vs." for very long, as they soon get over their initial misunderstandings and team up to battle the Kingpin. It parallels the original Marvel comics on which the story is based, which also saw the corpulent crime lord becoming the nemesis of both heroes. Several more of their arch-foes, such as the Chameleon, also put in appearances in a plot that revolves around Peter Parker accepting a job offer from philanthropist Wilson Fiske, not realizing that Fiske is in fact... but that would be telling. Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story Peter Shin, Pete MichelsRated: Unrated Writer: Gary Janetti, Chris Sheridan, Alex Borstein, Steve Callaghan, Seth MacFarlane, David Zuckerman Date Added: 01 Aug 2007 Comments: All new, Outrageous, Uncensored! Summary: For "Family Guy" fans, there are no freakin' sweeter words than "Never Before Seen." A triumphant homecoming for the Griffins, "Stewie Griffin" is not so much a movie as it is a not-yet-aired three-episode story arc enhanced with a home-video-exclusive "red carpet premiere" prologue and an epilogue (capped, of course, with a fart joke). "Family Guy's" resurrection is a television miracle, and its creators have rewarded the faithful by picking up right where they left off, offending any and all sensibilities (recasting Jesus as comic magician Art Metrano), dissing the celebrity disenfranchised (Ellen Cleghorne references, anyone?), and generally taking potshots at anyone on their enemies list (Stewie breaks the neck of a reporter for "Entertainment Weekly", the magazine that once called "Family Guy" "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). "The Untold Story! " is a star vehicle for "Family Guy" 's breakout character, in which the mega maniacal and matricidal infant has a Grinch-like change of heart after a near-death experience (and a disturbing encounter with Steve Allen in Hell) and, more life-altering, discovers a football-pated man who could be his father (the truth is more shocking!). As go the gags, so goes "Family Guy", and there are enough good ones here to compensate for the many misfires. The Miller-esque (as in Dennis) penchant for channeling arcane pop culture can grow tiresome. But for those who do remember the words to the "Who's the Boss" theme song, know (or still care) who Steve Bartman is, and are always up for "a sexy party," this will be the greatest story ever untold. TMNT Kevin MunroeRated: PG Writer: Kevin Munroe, Peter Laird, Kevin Eastman Date Added: 21 Oct 2007 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: Raising Shell In 2007 Summary: From a visual standpoint, this CG feature starring the venerable '80s and '90s superheroes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is nothing short of slam-bang; the computer animation has a scope and look that transcends both the original comics and animated series and the three live-action features that preceded it. Writer/director Kevin Munroe creates a striking animated world for the four heroes in a half-shell to live, play, and fight in, and the action sequences are occasionally breathtaking in their speed and complexity. But where "TMNT" stumbles is its bland plot, which picks up after the last of the live-action features with all four teen turtles in disarray, and abandons longtime villain Shredder in favor of an industrialist (well voiced by Patrick Stewart) who recruits the Foot Clan (including Karai, played by Zhang Ziyi) to revive thirteen ancient monsters to aid in his world domination scheme. It's a simple and fun story for kids, but longtime Turtles fans will miss the wry humor and smart sense of irony of the original comics (created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, who gets an executive producer credit here) in this storyline. Still, for most adolescent audience members, such concerns won't matter a whit in the face of the abundant action. "--Paul Gaita"

Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases Joseph HannahRated: Unrated Writer: Hanna & Barbera Date Added: 24 Sep 2008 Sound: AAC Picture Format: Academy Ratio Summary: Classic cartoon fans will delight in the bevy of classic "Tom and Jerry" animated shorts, each of which ends in the proclamation "Made in Hollywood, U.S.A.," and most of which are from the '40s. Fifteen episodes (totaling more than an hour) are featured. Included are: "The Cat Concerto," "Johann Mouse," "The Little Orphan," "Yankee Doodle Mouse," "Salt Water Tabby," "Tee for Two," "Solid Serenade," "Zoot Cat," "Johann Mouse," "Dr. Jekyll" and Mr. Mouse," "Mouse in Manhattan," "Kitty Foiled," "The Little Orphan," and "Jerry's Diary." It might surprise more mature viewers, with fond recollections of the adventures of the gray cat and the little mouse, how relentlessly violent (albeit cartoon violence) the 'toons are. This video, a collection of "chase"-centric films, is notably chock full of head bangin', body bashing, poisoning, and all-around disorder.

Van Helsing: The London Assignment Sharon BridgemanRated: PG-13 Writer: Garfield Reeves-Stevens, Judith Reeves-Stevens Date Added: 30 Jan 2008 Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Picture Format: Widescreen Summary: "Van Helsing: The London Assignment" is a wild and clever animated prequel, slightly more than a half-hour, to the live-action hit film about 19th-century monster hunter Dr. Gabriel Van Helsing. Set just before actor Hugh Jackman's dark hero heads off for battle with Count Dracula in Eastern Europe, "The London Assignment" finds Van Helsing attempting to stop Dr. Jekyll, and the latter's terrifying associate, Mr. Hyde, from their bizarre and bloody quest to turn septuagenarian Queen Victoria into a lovelorn girl again. While the widescreen artistry is often brutal, it is also breathtaking, especially in a fantastic chase sequence involving train cars. Besides Jackman, several actors from the feature lend voices to their cartoon counterparts, including Robbie Coltrane (as Hyde), Alun Armstrong (as Cardinal Jinette), and David Wenhman (as sidekick Carl). Special features include an incisive interview with Jackman about his character. "--Tom Keogh"

A Very Merry Pooh YearRated: G Writer: Karl Geurs, Ted Henning, Brian Hohlfeld Date Added: 25 Dec 2008 Sound: AAC Picture Format: Academy Ratio Summary: Pooh Bear and his pals in the Hundred Acre Wood celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve in a pair of adventures folded into this 65-minute made-for-video feature. In the first, the silly old bear plays Saint Nick to his buddies ("I always thought he'd be taller") after failing to get an errant wish list off to Santa, while identity crisis strikes the gang in the second half. Piglet inherits Tigger's hop and jumps like a pogo stick, and Eeyore (dressed in Pooh's shirt) becomes a happy-go-lucky honey lover. Welcome to "The Twilight Zone" according to Winnie the Pooh. There's not much A.A. Milne in this TV-style holiday special, but it's a bouncy little production that should entertain the wee ones with its warm fuzzies, good company, slapstick energy, and life lessons. Suddenly, a huge, mysterious, veg-ravaging "beast" begins attacking the town's sacred vegetable plots at night, and the competition hostess, Lady Tottington, commissions Anti-Pesto to catch it and save the day. Lying in wait, however, is Lady Tottington's snobby suitor, Victor Quartermaine, who'd rather shoot the beast and secure the position of local hero-not to mention Lady Tottingon's hand in marriage. With the fate of the competition in the balance, Lady Tottington is eventually forced to allow Victor to hunt down the vegetable chomping marauder. Little does she know that Victor's real intent could have dire consequences for her ...and our two heroes.

Yellow Submarine George DunningRated: G Writer: Lee Minoff, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Al Brodax, Jack Mendelsohn, Erich Segal, Roger McGough Date Added: 28 Jan 2008 Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: The forces of good! The forces of evil! Summary: The singing group, The Beatles, at the height of their popularity, made this cartoon of a land that is taken over by the Blue Meanies. They are recruited by an escapee to come and bring joy (and music) back to the land. The techniques are quite psychedelic in the cartoons and much care was taken to have the walks and mannerisms of the individual Beatles cartoons match the originals.
